Pa’s mother’s recipe. I have yet to try this one out – but I will very soon – she was a farmer’s wife who lived south of Kansas City as is known for her fried chicken breakfasts!
What you’ll need:
1 cup white sugar
1 cup of shortening
2 eggs beaten
4T milk
2 cups of rolled oats
2 cups of flour
1/2t salt
1t of baking soda
1t ground cinnamon
1 cup of raisins (optional)
½ cup of nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cream sugar & butter, beaten eggs, rolled oats thoroughly. Add Milk. Mix and sift together the dry ingredients and add to the batter. Once mixed together; add the raisins and nuts. Drop from the teaspoon onto buttered pans and bake for 12 mins*
*Given how old the recipe is I would keep an eye while baking these. Older ovens were not as efficient as todays and most likely cooks these much quicker.
